Inspired by the novel of the same name by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said, the story tells of the Muslim boy Ali and the Christian girl Nino—two souls born into two different worlds, yet bound by a sincere love that overcomes religion, war, and death.
The "Ali and Nino" statue is one of the 10 most romantic sculptures in the world. The lovers are an 8-meter-tall moving steel artwork by sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze. After a long day apart, every evening at 7 PM, the two figures of "Ali and Nino" slowly move closer to one another. The steel segments are cleverly designed to interweave, symbolizing their close and enduring love. However, this union lasts for only a fleeting 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, "Ali and Nino" move away from each other again, each looking in a different direction, their paths separate until 7 PM the following evening.
